☔ Rain & Pecking Blocks

• heavy, prolonged rain may soften the block and speed up deterioration, especially at the surface. This is true of most molasses or grain-based blocks, 
• If too wet, the surface can get mushy and attract debris/insects, and can be less pleasant for the birds to peck.

🌦️ Best Practice

✔ Place the block under some shelter (e.g., eaves, covered run) if you can — this protects it from constant rain and helps it last longer.
✔ Alternatively, put it on a raised board or stand so water drains away and it doesn’t sit in mud.
✔ Some owners also hang pecking blocks so they stay off the ground and out of pooled water — that works well too.
